A gas leak triggered an earthshaking explosion that flattened two apartment buildings on Wednesday, killing at least three people, injuring more than 60 and leaving nine missing. A tenant said residents had complained repeatedly in recent weeks about “unbearable” gas smells.By evening, rescue workers finally began the search for victims amid the broken bricks, splintered wood and mangled metal after firefighters spent most of the day dousing the flames. Heavy equipment, including back hoes and a bulldozer, arrived to clear the mountain of debris where the two five-story East Harlem buildings stood. Flood lights were in place. Thermal imaging cameras were at the ready to identify heat spots – bodies or pockets of fire. The recovery was facing hardship in the form of the weather, which was expected to drop into the 20s with rain. Some parts of the debris pile were inaccessible because of a sinkhole caused by a subsurface water main break, officials said. The fiery blast, on Park Avenue at 116th Street, not far from the edge of Central Park, erupted about 9:30 a.m., around 15 minutes after a neighboring resident reported smelling gas, authorities said. The Con Edison utility said it immediately sent workers to check out the report, but they didn’t arrive until it was too late. The explosion shattered windows a block away, rained debris onto elevated commuter railroad tracks close by, cast a plume of smoke over the skyline and sent people running into the streets.

The Meridian-class intelligence ship is packed with electronic eavesdropping equipment and weaponry, including AK-630 rapid-fire cannons and surface-to-air missiles, according to the Daily Mail.
Also often referred to as a Vishnya-class ship, the vessel boasts a crew of around 200, and went into service in the Black Sea in 1988 before it was transferred seven years later to the northern fleet, Russian media sources reported. The warship’s arrival hearkens to a time when the former Soviet Union was communist Cuba’s sponsor state through three decades of the Cold War. Former Russian President Boris Yeltsin created distance between the two countries for a time, but more recently the two countries have renewed their political, economic and military cooperation.

The New US Press Association Member ID & Press Credentials now contain a QR Code. QR Code is short for Quick Response Code. Originally used in the automotive industry, they have quickly become utilized for many purposes due to fast readability by a wide range of devices and their ability to hold far more information than standard UPC barcodes.
The QR Codes on the US Press Association Press Credentials will contain: Name, Member ID#, Join Date/Expiration Date, Title, Website Information (optional), Contact Information (optional). With the availability of QR/Barcode reading software and Apps for mobile devices, your QR Code can easily be scanned and offers your membership information almost instantly. This option has been suggested to us by several event planners and coordinators, and we listened. This technology has proved to be quite successful, especially in the political arena. While many people can offer up a business card, they can easily be lost, misplaced or damaged and unreadable. It is also possible to take a picture of an ID or business card, but there can also be issues with that as well such as blurred text, need to photograph both front and back to get all required information. With a QR code, this can be simply captured as an image and read later by software or scanned, decoded and saved instantly.
New member ID cards & credentials will contain QR codes. Existing members have the option to receive new credentials with QR code for $8.00 HERE.

Your USPA Member ID card also contains a holographic sticker to provide the ultimate in security and assurance to others that your ID is 100% genuine. The USPA hologram is embedded with a combination of ebeam nano text, tamper proof security foil and 4 seperate "security channels" or 2D/3D images.
